Set of 2 Watercolor Paintings by Ava Fernekes Original Midcentury art from Mineral Point, WI Wife of Max Fernekes Here we have a set of watercolor paintings with the subject of children from different parts of the world. They have a great simple folk-art feel to them. Very lush vibrant color, and beautiful ethinc costumes. These paintings are all signed and were given individual titles by Ava. We were told by the original owner that they were never displayed and were in storage for close to 50 years. This is the main reason that the colors are still so vivid. They each measure 16" x 12". If you would like to see them, we will have them in our store in Madison, WI to view if requested. Ava Fernekes was the wife of Max Fernekes, who was a landscape painter. He also painted many of the historic stone homes in Mineral Point. They both lived in Mineral Point, WI, and he especially was quite well known in the area. He liked to brag that he was one of the "very few artists in Wisconsin who lives by paintings alone" with no supplemental teachers salary or comercial art income. Max and Ava were married in 1934.
