This is Realism style art dating from 1800-1899. This Original is offered by the Dealer or Reseller located in Pleasantville, NY, zip code 10571. This is beautiful work if you like Native Americans art.

This oil painting by Henry Farny is in good condition and is signed at the lower right-hand corner and dated,1901.The painting measures 17" x 20" and comes with the original frame, also in good condition. Henry Farny was born in Alsace, France, the son of a political refugee who to emigrated to Pennsylvania when Henry was six years old. As a child, he enjoyed a friendly relationship with a nearby band of Senecas, which began his life-long fascination with Native Americans. In 1859 Farny's family moved to Cincinnati where he later took his first job as an apprentice lithographer. By the time he was eighteen, Harper's Weekly has published a two-page view of Cincinnati that Farny had drawn. After briefly working for Harper's in New York, Farny decided he needed more advanced art training. In 1867 he traveled to the Royal Academy in Dusseldorf, Germany where he spent three years studying under Herman Hartzog and Thomas Read, and painting beside John Twachtman and Frank Duveneck. Returning to Cincinnati in 1870, Farny resumed his illustration career working for local publishers as well as Harper's Weekly and Century magazines. Other illustration commissions ranged from such projects as circus posters to McGuffy's Eclectic Readers, the most widely used grade school texts of the 19th century. In 1881 Farny learned that the great Lakota leader, Sitting Bull, had turned himself over to the US military and was being held at the Standing Rock Agency. Hoping to meet Sitting Bull and learn more about the Ghost Dance movement, Farny journeyed up the Missouri River to North Dakota, but arrived after Sitting Bull had been moved to Fort Randall. Nevertheless, Farny was enchanted with what he did find, and used the opportunity to make sketches and collect artifacts for use in his studio paintings back in Cincinnati. From this time on, he devoted much of his time to recording scenes of Plains Indian life. Farny made his next Western trip in 1883 to illustrate a Century magazine article about the completion Northern Pacific Railroad's transcontinental line. Part of the celebration included ceremonies at the new territorial capital at Bismarck where he finally met Sitting Bull who delivered an address through an interpreter. Continuing west on the railroad with a group of dignitaries including Ulysses S.Grant, Farny sketched views of the Crow Reservation at Grey Cliff, Montana Territory which also became illustrations for Century. Subsequent Western projects included views of a trip down the Missouri River from Helena, Montana to Fort Benton, and portraits of Zuni leaders for articles about the Pueblo by the famed anthropologist, Frank Cushing, both for Century magazine. Although Farny drew the Zuni portraits in Washington, D.C. when his subjects were visiting the Smithsonian Institution, he did travel to Fort Sill, Oklahoma Territory in 1894 at the invitation of General Nelson Miles to paint the Apaches being interned there. Among his most famous works from this trip is a watercolor sketch of Geronimo, signed by the famous chief. After about 1890, Farny discontinued most illustration work in favor of easel paintings depicting the Plains Indians that he had met, lived with, and studied in the previous decade. Considering his training, it is no surprise that his work falls solidly within the romantic realist tradition of the late 19th century. His paintings-most commonly in gouache and transparent watercolor-are highly detailed representations of Native life free of negative effects of reservation living. Although his images are idealized in this way, they are not overtly romanticized or dramatized like those of most other "Indian Painters" of his and subsequent generations. His light is usually the strong, even light of day, not the exaggerated chiaroscuro effects of firelight and shadow. His poses are candid, not the result of stagecraft. Farny's goal was to preserve the details of a way of life he saw disappearing before his eyes. We allow returns within 7 days with a no question asked policy.
This is Western Realism themed art dating from 1900-1949. This Original is sold by the Dealer or Reseller located in New York State, zip code unknown. This is beautiful to get if you like Native Americans art.

Edward Borein This Oil Painting By Edward Borien is a beautiful depiction of a Native American Brave hunting turkeys. The size is 11" x 18". The condition is good, no restoration. The frame is not original. The signature is on the lower left. Born in San Leandro, California, Edward Borein became one of the most popular artists of western scene painting, equally adept at ink drawing, watercolor, and etching. He was raised in San Leandro, a western cow town, in a family where his father was a county politician. Edward had many childhood memories of herded cattle and their cowboys, which he began sketching at the age of five. He was educated in the Oakland, California schools, and at the age of 17 began working on a ranch near Oakland and then drifted and sketched as a working cowboy throughout the Southwest, Mexico, and Guatemala. It was said that he practiced his art on anything he could find from bunkhouse walls to scraps of paper. At age 19, he enrolled at the San Francisco Art School, his only formal art training, and there he met Jimmy Swinnerton and Maynard Dixon who encouraged him in his art career. The first person to purchase his work was Charles Lummis, editor of The Land and Sunshine magazine in California, and the two became life-long friends. Borein and Lucille Maxwell were married in the Lummis home. Borein, a typical westerner in dress and manner, also became close friends with Charles Russell, actor Will Rogers, and President Theodore Roosevelt. Borein often traveled north to visit Russell in Great Falls, Montana and to travel among Indian tribes. In 1899, Borein visited Arizona while returning from Mexico. By 1902, he was a successful illustrator in San Francisco for the San Francisco Call, and in 1907 to enhance his illustration skills, went to New York to learn etching techniques. There he enrolled in the Art Students League and was a student of Child Hassam. In the theatre district, he opened a studio that became a gathering place for 'lonesome' westerners such as Charles Russell, Will Rogers, Olaf Seltzer and Oscar Borg. But Borein did not feel at home in New York, so he moved to Santa Barbara, California in 1921. This was a final move. He and his wife built a Hopi-style home, and he taught at the Santa Barbara School of the Arts until his death, and also turned increasingly from oil to watercolor painting. "On occasion Borein would decorate place cards for dinners with small watercolor skeches of cowboys, vaqueros, Indians and Bucking horses". (Santa Fe Auction) From his studio, which again attracted many of his friends, he depicted Indians, cowboys, and California ranch life and was financially successful. chicmami Store EDGAR ALWIN PAYNE (1883 - 1947) THIS PAINTING BY EDGAR ALWIN PAYNE IS A PANORAMIC DEPICTION OF NATIVE AMERICANS SURVEYING THE MOUNTAIN AREA. THE SIZE IS 11" X 16". THE CONDITION IS GOOD. NO RESTORATION. THE ANTIQUE GOLD FRAME IS ORIGINAL. THE PAINTING IS SIGNED ON THE LOWER LEFT. Edgar Payne was born in Washburn, Missouri in 1883. Leaving home at the age of fourteen, Edgar Payne made his way to Chicago working as a house, sign and set painter. Once in Chicago, he became well-known as a set painter and soon was commissioned to paint an 11,000 square foot mural for the Congress Hotel. Edgar Payne enrolled in classes at the Art Institute of Chicago but did not care for the instruction and soon dropped out. Edgar Payne continued to paint, however, joining the Chicago Society of Artists and the Palette and Chisel Club, and began traveling around the country for new subject matter to paint. It was on one of these trips in 1909 that Edgar Payne happened upon Laguna Beach. Struck by the landscape, which was unique to a thus-far landlocked artist, Edgar Payne returned to paint the region often over the ensuing years. In 1912 Payne married fellow artist Elsie Palmer, who had met on one of his trips to California, in a ceremony in Chicago. Three years later, Payne and Palmer moved to Santa Barbara and, four years after that, Laguna Beach. There, Edgar Payne founded the Laguna Beach Art Association and served as its first president. The years 1919-1922 were relatively stable for Edgar Payne, as he traveled less than would be typical for him over the course of his career. In 1922 he and Elsie set off for a two year tour of Europe and, after that, returned to the United States and began living bi-coastally, moving between New York City and the Los Angeles area with the seasons. Beginning in 1917 with a commission from the Santa Fe Railroad, Edgar Payne began traveling the Southwest of the nation in an effort to discover new landscapes and subjects to paint. Edgar Payne began to explore the Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly and Northern New Mexico, developing a new color palette to match the light and earth of the region. Along with the Sierra Mountains, the subject of Edgar Payne's best-known work, the Southwest would be a region of continued interest for Edgar Paynee. His travels were extensive and well-documented, to the point that a lake in the High Sierras, Payne Lake, is named after him. Fame struck early and often for Edgar Payne during the course of hisEdgar Payne, Summer Sierras, Oil on Canvas, Circa 1920, 12" x 16" career. He received an Honorable Mention in the 1923 Paris Salon, did a number of major commissions, including large mural pieces for the Empress Theater in Chicago, the Queen Theater in Houston and the Clay County Court House in Brazil, Indiana. Edgar Payne's work can be found in many museums, including but not limited to the Art Institute of Chicago, the Oakland Museum, the Fleischer Museum, the National Academy of Design, the Indianapolis Museum, the Laguna Museum and the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C QUESTIONS TO EBAY MESSAGE LINK.
This is WESTERN REALISM style art created around 1800-1899. This Original is sold by the Dealer or Reseller located in WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY, zip code 10606. This is beautiful work if you want NATIVE AMERICANS art.

Frederic Sackrider Remington (1861 - 1909) THIS MAJESTIC OIL PAINTING BY FREDERIC REMINGTON IS A PEACEFUL DEPICTION OF NATIVE AMERICANS DURING A BRIEF REST(or possibly a ceremony). THE SIZE IS 17"X13". THE CONDITION IS GOOD. NO RESTORATION. THE FRAME IS NOT ORIGINAL. THIS PAINTING IS SIGNED ON THE LOWER RIGHT HAND SIDE AND DATED 1889. Frederic Remington was born on October 4, 1861 in Canton, New York to a prominent family. He was related to Western portrait artist George Catlin and cowboy sculptor Earl W. Bascom. Frederic grew up during the Civil War hearing epics from his father of his life in the cavalry. His early attempts at art were drawing and sketching soldiers in uniform on horseback. It was also the influence of his father's newspaper business that taught Remington how to capture a story to illustrate his romantic version of the West and its struggles. From a very young age he was drawn to the West and enjoying the great outdoors hunting, fishing and hiking. Remington's father expected Frederic to earn a college degree, so in 1878 he enrolled at Yale's School of Fine Arts. His father passed away a year and a half into his studies, and at that time he went to Montana to try out life on a ranch. He only lasted two months before he left there and used a small inheritance to buy a sheep ranch in Kansas. That endeavor lasted only about a year, and Remington married his childhood sweetheart, Eva Adele Caten, in 1884 and moved to Kansas City to invest in a hardware store and a saloon. Not enjoying the hard life in the West, the Remingtons moved back to Brooklyn, New York in 1885. Frederic studied briefly at the Art Students League, but spent a great deal of his time traveling to Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. He was becoming well known as an illustrator for magazines such as Harpers and Theodore Roosevelt's serialized articles for Century Magazine. The subject matter was almost exclusively his mythic sketches of the Western frontier, cowboys and the military. He would even self-assign reporting missions to the West, resulting in many articles both written and illustrated by Frederic Remington. In 1888 he won the Hallgarten and Clark award at the National Academy of Design exhibition. The following year he was awarded the silver medal at the Paris International Exposition. It was during the mid-1890s when Remington began to learn and quickly master the medium of sculpture. His initial attempts were using the sand cast method that was traditional at the time. But after being introduced to the lost wax process all of his subsequent castings were done using that method. In 1898, Remington interrupted his sculpting to go to Cuba as a war correspondent and illustrator reporting on the Spanish-American War for Harper's and New York Journal. He witnessed the assault on San Juan Hill by American forces led by Theodore Roosevelt and others. This experience caused Remington to become deeply disillusioned by the reality of war and how appalling rather than heroic it was. Upon his return, he retired for a time of healing at an island retreat he owned on the St. Lawrence River. It was here that he did some of his best sculpting work. He became known for not only the detail and dramatic movement in his pieces, but for the life-like portrayal of his subjects. In a career that spanned less than twenty-five years, Remington produced more than 3,000 drawings and paintings, twenty-two bronze sculptures, a novel, a Broadway play, and over one hundred articles and stories. John Ford's film "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" was inspired directly by Remington's work. The "Marlboro Man" in the well-known cigarette ad was one of Remington's illustrations. His legacy is more about a portrayal of the heroic figures who settled the West and their life-and-death struggles, rather than so much about what he experienced personally on his journeys. He gave Americans stories about what they wanted to see in themselves - independence, bravery and optimism. Even though he only actually lived in the West for only a year, he inspired a love of the West and is reputed to be America's most popular nineteenth century artist. Frederic Remington passed away in 1909 at the age of forty-eight following an emergency appendectomy.
